JUST AS one festival season winds down in Galway, another brilliant one prepares to take off. It is time to announce the full line-up for this year’s Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway...
All will be revealed next Tuesday at the Comedy KARLnival in Róisín Dubh. While it is very hush hush at the moment, the Galway Advertiser understands that, with acts of the calibre of John Bishop, Dermot & Dave, and Ardal O’Hanlon already announced, the full reveal will be very special.
Tuesday’s Comedy KARLnival [August 13] features comedians who may or may not be appearing in the festival (hint: they are ). Joining MC Karl Spain will be Colin Geddis, a leading light in the Northern Irish comedy scene. As well as having sold out his Belfast SSE ARENA show for next January (adding a second night ), Colin is the creator and writer of Gedzilla films, an online based sketch and stand up comedy channel which has reached close to 10,000,000 YouTube hits.
Alongside Colin will be Barry Murphy, Ireland’s undisputed comedy don. He founded the country’s longest running comedy club, The Comedy Cellar in 1989. Barry has been a writer or performer or both on practically all critically acclaimed home grown comedy, including The End, Father Ted, Soupy Norman, Stand and Deliver, Irish Pictorial Weekly, and of course Après Match.
Described as "fantastic" by Nina Conti and as a "psychotically funny b**tard" by the late, great, Rik Mayall, Tom O'Mahony is best known as the intolerable toff Tarquin in the hit TV comedy series Damo & Ivor. His stand-up material delves into everything from his life as an MMA fighter to being a panto dame. He has also appeared on Republic of Telly, Irish Pictorial Weekly, Bridget & Eamon, and 2FM's Breakfast Republic.
Support is from Show Me The Funny 2019 finalist, Amy Walsh. Doors are at 8pm. Admission is €8/6 and includes free entry to the Silent Disco afterwards.
