Extinction Rebellion Galway plans further actions

Following Extinction Rebellion Galway’s ‘die-in’ last Saturday at the Spanish Arch, to symbolise the ongoing destruction of the natural world for profit, the group has announced that the rewill be further actions.

The group will hold a meeting on Monday August 12 at 6pm in An Mhetheal Rothar, the local community bike shed, near NUI Galway. The school strikes are planned to go ahead on September 20, and the broader Earth Strike on September 27. The second “global non-violent rebellion for our future” starts on October 7.

Extinction Rebellion Galway is calling on the local authorities and the Government to take “radical action” to combat climate change. “We demand the Government act to immediately halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2030,” a spokedsperson for the group said, “while reversing all policies not in line with that position. Extinction Rebellion also demands the transition towards a sustainable economy, where the vulnerable do not pay the heaviest price.”
