Improvement works begin on Connemara’s Derrartha Road

Improvement works have begun on the Derrartha Road which links An Cheathrú Rua with Ceantar na nOileán, following an allocation of €300,000.

The investment is to widen between 300 and 400 metres of the road. This involves wall set-back works and the relocation of utility poles. Following a tendering process a local contractor has been appointed for the construction of boundary walls for the local houses. The project also includes strengthening sections of the road and upgrading the drainage network.

The funding has been allocated under the Specific Improvements Grant Category of Regional and Local Roads Funding for Galway from the Government. It has been welcomed by Aire don Ghaeilge, don Ghaeltacht agus do na hOileáin, Seán Kyne.
