Gort Community Centre is set to benefit from a grant of almost €65,000 which has been issued under the LEADER programme. The money will go towards renovations at the centre.
The grant, totalling €64,950, brings to €154,000 , the total amount invested in the facility over the past four years. Minister for the Diaspora and International Development, and Galway East Fine Gael TD, Ciaran Cannon, welcomed the funding.
“This is an acknowledgement of the centre’s importance to local social and sporting life, its contribution to youth initiatives,” he said, “and the most recent sign of the Government’s confidence in South Galway’s vitality. I look forward to seeing the renovations continue to enhance a facility which is at the heart of local community life.”
The funding followed the recent announcement of what Minister Cannon called a “substantial investment”in Gort Community School and Gort National School, which, he said, “will transform educational facilities in the district”.
