Donal Lyons re-appointed as chair of Leisureland board

Former mayor joined by newly elected councillors O'Reilly and Hanley

Donal Lyons, the long serving Independent city councillor, has been re-appointed as chair of the board of Leisureland. Newly elected councillors, Pauline O'Reilly and Owen Hanley, have also been appointed to the board.

Cllr Lyons will serve as chair for the next five years, and said he is "very positive about Leisureland's current standing and future prospects". He is joined on the board by fellow councillors O'Reilly (Greens ) and Hanley (Soc Dems ), both of whom were first elected to City Hall in May.

Ian Brennan, Leisureland operations manager, said the Salthill based facility had "developed a large cross section of initiatives" in recent years, such as The Leisureland Swim Academy, which, he said, "caters for a large number of local children".

He added that Leisureland is "looking forward to a busy summer peak season", and said both the events hall and outdoor amusement site are "nearing full occupancy with all year around usage". He said Trad on the Prom produces "a world class show, three days a week in the events hall", and that concerts from Natan Carter and Daniel O'Donnell are imminent.

"Leisureland," he said, "will also play its part in facilitating events over the 2020 Capital of Culture year."
