It’s Monday morning, my day for sitting down to get my thoughts on paper for this article. I sit for a few moments asking for inner guidance on what topic to pick and “cooperation” emerges.
Wikipedia says “cooperation is the process of groups of organisms working or acting together for common, mutual, or some underlying benefit as opposed to working in competition for selfish benefit” Well it seems that the animal and plant kingdoms master this better than many of us humans as the dominant survival strategy in our world today is one of competition. This is experienced and visible everywhere, in workplaces, communities, families, governments etc.
This competitiveness has even pushed us into an existential crisis which we’re not even sure we can come out of. Since the global financial crash in 2008, there’s been continuous conflict and upheavals around the world as old structures and hierarchies have been exposed.
For many of us, we watch with disbelief at all that’s happening and realize that nothing is as it appears. As we let go of our old belief systems, we’re awakening to the realization that all of life is sacred.
This new consciousness that’s arising is requiring of us a new way of operating in the world. The immediacy of the Climate crisis is requiring of us to cooperate in a new way in order to survive. In this new way, individuals are independently coming and working together and collaborating freely without hierarchical structures.
New and exciting times are ahead of us all. The resistance from the old Guard will continue for a while, but certainly the “The times they are a-changing”.
Humans have survived over millennia as a result of being able to cooperate. Our survival and well-being now depend on our ability to cooperate with each other in a self-empowered way.
