Sunday April 18 2021 has been appointed by the Government as Census Day, when citizens across the State will complete a questionnaire covering issues on housing, transport, citizenship, ethnicity, language, health, and education.
The range of questions was informed by a public consultation held by the CSO between October and November 2017 which attracted more than 400 submissions, and a pilot census survey which took place last September and involved 10,300 households at 35 locations across the State, including Athenry, Claregalway, and Craughwell.
The naming of the date has been welcomed by Aire don Ghaeilge, don Ghaeltacht agus do na hOileáin, Seán Kyne. The Minister has statutory responsibility for the Central Statistics Office under the Statistics Act 1993.
“The collation and availability of accurate and comprehensive statistics the Census provides," he said, "is vital and helps shape policies and programmes across Government so that they best serve households and communities across the country.”
