Total new car registrations for the month of June are up 13 per cent (1,410 ) when compared with June 2018 (1,248 ). However, new car registrations for the year to date are down 7.4 per cent (80,712 ) on the similar period last year (87,116 ).
Volkswagen is the top selling brand, followed by Toyota, Hyundai, Ford, Skoda, Nissan, Renault, KIA, Peugeot and Audi.
The top selling model Nissan Qashqai was the top selling followed by the Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Corolla, with the Volkswagen Tiguan just ahead of the Skoda Octavia.
Sales of all body type segments were lower, except for SUVs, which were up by 17.3 per cent or +2,129 more 191 sales than in the similar 181 period.
Imported used cars for June saw a slight decrease -1.0 per cent (8,060 ) on the same month last year (8,140 ) while year to date imported used cars are 2.4 per cent (53,120 ) ahead of the similar period in 2018 (51,879 ).
New electric vehicle registrations continue to grow month on month with a total of 1,954 EV cars registered so far this year, which surpasses the total number of EVs registered for the whole 2018 (1,233 ).

Other official statistics also released today by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI ), show that new light commercial vehicle (LCV )/van registrations are up 8.4 per cent (752 ) on June 2018 (694 ), with registrations for the year to date being down 7.6 per cent (15,386 ).
After a very poor January (-17.74 per cent ), the new LCV/van market has been recovering steadily. Ford remains the clear market leader, followed by Volkswagen, then Renault, Peugeot, Toyota, Opel, Citroen, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz and Fiat, too complete the top 10.
The top selling 191 model was the Ford Transit Custom, followed by the Volkswagen Caddy, Peugeot Partner, Renault Traffic, Citroen Berlingo, Renault Master, Volkswagen Transporter, Ford Transit, Ford Transit Connect and Mercedes-Benz Sprint completing the top 10.
Heavy Commercials show the way
Meanwhile new heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs ) are the shining star, having increased 72.68 per cent (316 ) in comparison to June 2018 (183 ) and the year to date figure is up 14.6 per cent (1,797 ).
There have been more trucks sold in April, May and June, than were sold in February or March. Volvo lead the market, ahead of Scania, DAF, Mercedes-Benz and Renault.
