PHILIP DOHERTY has been appointed artistic director of Fíbín, the theatre group based in Indreabháin, Connemara, which is the country's only Irish language touring drama company.
Mr Doherty, who is originally from County Cavan, is an award winning writer and director. His play, The Experience Room, won the Scripts Ireland Award 2017. He also won the RTÉ PJ O'Connor Award twice with his radio plays Mysterious Ways (2006 ) and A Golden Triangle (2013 ).
He has previously worked with Fibín, scripting a version of the epic Fenian tale, The Pursuit of Diarmaid and Gráinne, which was directed by Mikel Murfi in 2016. This year, he directed Fíbín's spectacle at the bonfire for Lóchrann Chonamara at Maam Cross on St John's Eve, a Galway 2020 Small Towns, Big Ideas initiative. He is currently writing the script for the re-enactment of Cath na Ceathrún Rua (The Battle of Carraroe ).
