Top tips for a healthy summer

In association with Advertiser Classifieds

Summer may have arrived over a month and a half ago but it only seems now that the weather has received the memo with the warm temperatures and the suns splitting the sky over the course of this week.

With the heat and sun returning, it is important to remember to take care of oneself so here at the advertiser.ie we provide some top tips on staying healthy during summer 2019.

1. Get the sun cream on

Even though it seems that we have only had a few days of sun, those harmful UV rays are still as potent as ever. It is advisable to use SPF 30 when starting out your suncream regime. Although it feels good to feel the warmth of the sun on our skins, it is not the best idea to sit during the peak hours of 10am and 4pm when UV radiation is at its height. Apply suncream every two hours and immediately after swimming.

2. Keep active

As the heat increases some may feel the need to skip the work out altogether but what needs to change is the schedule. Work out during the early morning or later evenings or even work out indoors to minimise over heating.

3. Stay hydrated

Probably the most obvious one but it needs to be still said. The heat equals sweating resulting in loss of fluid. Remember to replace that fluid.

4. Downsize your meals

Probably not what you wanted to here but in warmer heat our bodies cannot digest food as quickly hence we feel bloated after a big meal during the sun. Lighter meals are what should be eaten.

5. Binge on light, healthier snacks

Look we are all human so we will occasionally want to snack. But instead of chocolate and crisps which served us well during winter, switch to seasonal fruits, nut, and seeds.

So there you have it. Enjoy the summer.
