Bend It Like Beckham director to give Fleadh Masterclass

Gurinder Chadha to attend 31st Galway Film Fleadh

WRITER/DIRECTORS Allison Anders and Gurinder Chadha, and the actor Will Forte, will give this year's Galway Film Fleadh masterclasses in screenwriting, directing, and acting.

Allison Anders will give the Writers Masterclass on Thursday July 11. She has directed episodes of Sex And The City, Orange Is The New Black, and Riverdale; was nominated for an Emmy for Best Director for the Lifetime movie Ring Of Fire; and won a Peabody Award for her film Things Behind The Sun. Her film, Gas Food Lodging on Wednesday July 10.

The Director's Masterclass will be with Gurinder Chadha on Friday July 12. Her new film, Blinded By The Light (which will also be shown at the fleadh ), is a comedy based on the life of Sarfraz Manzoor, who co-wrote the script, about finding his own voice and becoming a massive fan of Bruce Springsteen. Her previous films include the smash-hit Bend it Like Beckham, as well as Bride and Prejudice, and Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging.

Will Forte will give the Actors Masterclass on Saturday July 14. He spent eight seasons on Saturday Night Live and was nominated three times for an Emmy Award. His feature film work includes A Futile and Stupid Gesture, MacGruber, She’s Funny That Way, and Nebraska. He also lent his voice to The LEGO Movie, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 1 and 2. His forthcoming film, Extra Ordinary, will screen on Saturday July 13.

In addition to the Actor’s Masterclass, actors should note that Ros and John Hubbard of Hubbards Casting will return to host their Casting Workshop in association with Spotlight on Saturday July 13.
