IT IS difficult to go a few minutes without being on your phone or obsessively checking your social media updates. One man, though, appears to have managed that, and has banished modern technology from his life altogether.
The Way Home: Tales from a Life without Technology is the new book from Mark Boyle, who has managed to live a life where he has renounced modern technology completely. The book is an argument for alternative living, and a radical response to the overwhelming nature of how technology and our devices impact on our lives, and can leave us disconnected and dislocated.
The book will be launched in Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop, Middle Street, this evening at 6.30pm. The same event will also see the launch of Savage Gods by Paul Kingsnorth, about his attempt to relocate his family from a metropolitan world to a simpler and more meaningful life in the west of Ireland. The two writers will be in conversation at the event. All are welcome.
