SMALL ISLAND, Andrea Levy’s Orange Prize-winning novel, comes to the stage of Britain's National Theatre, and the Thursday June 27 performance will be broadcast live to The Eye, Wellpark, at 7pm.
Small Island embarks on a journey from Jamaica to Britain, through WWII to 1948 – the year the HMT Empire Windrush docked at Tilbury. Hortense yearns for a new life away from rural Jamaica; Gilbert dreams of becoming a lawyer; and Queenie longs to escape her Lincolnshire roots. For all three, hope and humanity meet stubborn reality.
