THEY'RE BACK Jim, but perhaps not quite as you have heard them before? Ahead of the European tour that takes them to the Galway Arts Festival Big Top, Two Door Cinema Club have released their new album.
False Alarm is released tomorrow via Prolifica Inc/PIAS, and as the singles released so far - the off-kilter modernist pop of 'Talk' and the mildly Krautrock ‘Satellite’ - indicate, this is is another step forward on along the evolutionary path for the County Down trio.
Indie-pop, New Romantic style funk, moody Bowie-esque art-pop, and grandiose synth-pop are all present, along with socially conscious lyrics tackling climate change, social media, Brexit, and other man-made modern day horrors. The album was recorded in London and LA with producer Jacknife Lee (U2, REM, The Killers ).
“I love the pop thing,” says frontman Alex Trimble. “I love experimenting and going to different places, I love doing things that are a little bit wonky and I love the idea of doing something we haven’t done before, why can’t we do all of those things at once? It sounds like Two Door Cinema Club – not a Two Door Cinema Club there’d ever been before but that’s what I love. We can always do something new but it always feels like something we’ve done.”
Since their 2010 debut album Tourist History, TDCC have sold more than 2 million albums - no mean feat in this era - and enjoyed two billion Streams and 300 million views on Vevo and Youtube.
