New Miss Galway looking forward to acting as ambassador for Cancer Care West

New Miss Galway Emma Healy is looking forward to acting as ambassador for her chosen charity Cancer Care West.

19-year-old Emma has just completed her first year in hairdressing and barbering. Having seen an advert in the Galway Advertiser, Emma’s father encouraged her to enter the Miss Galway competition. She decided “why not” since entering the contest could only boost her self-confidence.

Throughout her interview, Emma mentioned that she believes stepping out of her comfort zone and doing something completely new could only bring positive results.

Emma will compete in the Miss Ireland contest this autumn and represent both her city and county at a national level. Miss Ireland, which is one of the world’s longest running pageants, is a platform for young women to build contacts and opportunities.

The current Mr Ireland, Wayne Walsh, and the owner of Catwalk Models, Mandy Maher, sat on the interview panel last week to determine who their next Miss Galway should be.

Speaking this week, Mandy Maher said she is thrilled to get Emma signed and started in the modelling industry.

Emma will also represent her main sponsor, DNA Nightclub & Venue, throughout her reigning year, as well as her other sponsors: Sarah Mason Professional and EducoGym. Caroline Downey from Carried Away PR and Events will be her PR mentor.

As Miss Galway, Emma will also be involved in charity work and community efforts, and she is looking forward to getting more involved locally over her reigning year. The local charity partner which Miss Galway will act as ambassador for throughout her title year is Cancer Care West.
