Supermac’s to spend €40 million on Irish farm produce

Supermac’s MD, Pat McDonagh has said that the family chain of restaurants was projecting a spend of €40million on Irish farm produce in 2019.

“We are strongly committed to Irish farmers and the farming community in general,” Mr McDonagh said, “and this is a very strong endorsement of the quality of Irish produce on Irish farms that I am proud to serve it in each of our restaurants.”

The company will open its latest Plaza in Kinnegad in two weeks’ time at the junction of the M4 and M6 and new store openings are a big factor in the increased spend.

“We will be opening further outlets throughout the year and this will bring our total number of outlets to almost 120 across the country,” Mr McDonagh said. “Last year we spent over €9million on Irish chicken and our projections indicate that we will be spending more in 2019,” Mr McDonagh continued.

“On this basis we are projecting that our spend on Irish beef, chicken, bacon and vegetables will be €40million in 2019.” he said. “We are over 40 years in business and since we started in Ballinasloe in 1978 we have always looked to local suppliers wherever possible, be that for farm produce or construction materials,” Mr McDonagh said.

“Since we introduced our Fresh range of beef and chicken products, customers have indicated that quality, taste and traceability are key factors when they are choosing their food. We work hard to let them know that our beef and chicken comes from Irish farms and supports Irish farm families. We still have some of the same suppliers that we had 35 years ago and that depth of relationship and the trust built up over the years is key to the success of our Fresh range.

Supermac’s is Ireland’s largest indigenous quick service restaurant chain. The franchise currently has over 116 outlets across the Republic and Northern Ireland. Supermac’s also operates the Papa John’s Pizza brand and SuperSubs which provide Supermac’s customers with additional healthy options.

The latest store to open was Supermac’s Birr and the next Supermac’s to open will be the Kinnegad Plaza at the junction of the N4 and N6 which is scheduled for the end of May.
