Fresh perspective needed on city’s problems, says Hoare

A local election candidate has pledged to bring a fresh perspective and vision to the running of the city.

Eddie Hoare, who is seeking a seat for Fine Gael in the Galway City Central Ward— which stretches from Bushypark to Menlo and takes in Claddagh for the first time — says a new approach is needed to steer Galway into a successful future.

“With all due respect to the outgoing councillors, I am firmly of the view that the City Council would benefit from the injection of some youthful new blood who would bring new ideas and new approaches to the way business is done, and decisions are arrived at, at City Council level.”

Mr Hoare, aged 31, has already enjoyed success on both the sporting field, having starred for St Michael’s and Galway, and in business — he is a Director with Hoare Chartered Accountants.

“I will endeavour to provide a fresh new voice for the people of Galway with the goal of building a city of excellence and ambition,” he says.

One of the areas which he intends to focus on immediately, if elected, is Galway’s notorious traffic jams.

“Traffic congestion is an ongoing issue and little has been done about it.

“It is costing businesses in Galway millions every year and is a source of major exasperation for ordinary road users as well.

“On top of that, it is doing enormous reputational damage to Galway with the city’s blackspots featuring every day on national traffic reports. It is a huge negative in every respect for the city.

“We must look at alternative solutions which have been adopted by other European cities and invest further resources in the provision of quality bus and cycling facilities and offer greater incentive to users.”

“This needs to be done urgently . . . otherwise there is every danger of the city coming to even more frequent standstills,” warned Mr Hoare.
