From the Big Apple to Inishbofin with Croí

Local heart charity Croí is appealing to runners or walkers to take up a heart healthy challenge this year either at home or away.

Croí is currently recruiting people to travel to New York in November as part of its ninth New York City Marathon tour. Entry to the marathon, which is considered the number one marathon in the world, is very difficult with non charity places only being available on a lottery system. Croí’s package includes guaranteed race entry as well as flights, accommodation, taxes, insurance, and some gear before you go. Croí has 60 places for this event and they are filling fast, with demand usually exceeding availability.

If you think a full marathon is beyond you, the fourth annual Inishbofin half marathon will take place on the weekend of May 15 to 17 and is a fantastic and challenging opportunity. Limited to 80 participants due to island infrastructure, the event allows entrants to run/walk 13.1 miles around the idyllic island, taking in fantastic scenery along the route. The package includes ferry transfer from Cleggan, two nights’ B&B with dinner, and race entry. Walkers and runners are equally welcome. This year’s event is already a sell out with only four places remaining.

Marathon participation is no longer the sport of the elite, with people from all walks of life taking up a marathon challenge every year for Croí. Croí gives guidance for the inexperienced on training programmes as well as fundraising tips to make their challenges more manageable.
