A 43-year-old man who denies a charge of sexually assaulting a female last year has been remanded on bail following his appearance before Galway District Court.
The man, who may not be named for legal reasons, is charged with sexually assaulting the alleged victim on March 13 last year in a Connemara village.
Inspector Pat McHugh said the book of evidence in the matter was not yet ready.
Judge Mary Fahy recalled that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed the charge could be dealt with in the District Court on a plea basis only but as the accused was contesting the charge the matter had to be sent forward to the Circuit Criminal Court for trial.
Judge Fahy directed the man’s name could not be published in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim and she remanded the accused on continuing bail to appear before the court again on September 22 next, for service of the book of evidence.
