Galway Technical Institute presents the artists and designers of the future in its 2019 student exhibition. Students from four groups — art: portfolio preparation QQI Level 5; drawing and visual inquiry QQI Level 6; animation QQI Level 6; and furniture making and design QQI Level 5 — will be showing the results of their year’s hard work from Friday May 24 to Tuesday May 28, (excluding Sunday ) from 10am until 4pm.
The opening reception is on at 7pm on Thursday May 23 and Meadhbh McNutt, artist, writer, and co-director at 126 Gallery and recipient of 2016 Aesthetics and Art Theory Award from Kingston University London, will be the guest speaker and will formally open the exhibition.
GTI has acquired a reputation for educational excellence and for providing a supportive learning environment. The art: portfolio preparation course has an unbroken reputation in gaining high scores from all the Irish art and design colleges and from those in the UK. This course is seen as an essential foundation in art and design skills, knowledge, and concepts by all the higher institutions of art and design in Ireland. Graduates of this course are proven to be more likely to stay the course at degree level and to achieve higher grades in their final examinations. There is a clear progression pathway from the Level 6 courses at GTI directly into the second year of relevant degree programmes, and it is not unheard of for students of distinction being offered a place directly into third year.
The result of this thrumming hive of activity is the GTI student exhibition. Go along and enjoy the visual expression of the students’ remarkable journeys, including experimental drawing, energising painting, innovative furniture design, and animation.
