Galway footballer Eoghan Kerin launches Children’s Hospice Week

Galway footballer Eoghan Kerin, joined other players from the Gaelic Players Association (GPA ) to help launch the fifth National Children’s Hospice Week campaign, which this year runs from May 20-26 and is themed “Moments that Matter.” This focus highlights how precious time is for children with life-limiting conditions and their families, and that capturing and savouring the big and small moments every day can accumulate into valuable memories to cherish for years to come.

As part of the activities for National Children’s Hospice Week, families of LauraLynn will have a number of opportunities to create special occasions, celebrate, and have fun with their child – all of which they may not usually have the opportunity to do without specialist support. More details on what events are involved and how people can participate can be seen on LauraLynn.ie

Inviting the nation to tune in to the Ireland AM Telethon and come together to donate funds to help reach LauraLynn’s fundraising target, Orla O’Brien, CEO of LauraLynn, commented, “This year alone LauraLynn requires €5 million to maintain services, of which €4.3 million must be raised through fundraising efforts. So events such as National Children’s Hospice Week are critical in achieving this target.

Paul Flynn, CEO of the GPA, said they are absolutely delighted to be involved with the Laura Lynn Hospice and helping to raise awareness of Children’s Hospice Week.

“Sport is an important part of children’s lives and as inter county player, our members are seen by children around Ireland as heroes. Because of this we feel that it’s important to give something back and support initiatives like this. We encourage everyone to get involved in some way over the coming week and help the Laura Lynn Hospice reach their fundraising target,” he added.

Since opening in September 2011, LauraLynn Ireland Children’s Hospice has provided specialised hospice care to more than 370 children with life-limiting conditions and their families. LauraLynn provides holistic care to each child which enables them to make the most of every day. This care also extends to the family of each patient who are often dealing with difficult emotional, physical and financial pressure.
