We must plan Ardaun community facilities in advance - Walsh

According to Fine Gael Councillor John Walsh, up to 2,700 houses will be constructed in Ardaun over the coming years.

He said that Government has allocated funding to provide services to the area and we have passed the Ardaun local area plan at council level.

“Given the shortage of much needed private housing, a temptation exists to proceed with housing development ASAP. We must however ensure that community facilities are developed in tandem with housing development.

He said that we must not allow a situation arise, as occurred in Knocknacarra, where an entire generation of children were raised without adequate recreational facilities.

“We must start planning now for the next phase of the city’s expansion and insist that community and recreational facilities are developed in tandem with housing and not as an afterthought”.

“I have met with Minister Eoghan Murphy and discussed this matter with him and he is fully agreeable with the idea of Community facilities such as playgrounds, sports pitches, meeting rooms etc being developed in tandem with house building,” he said.
