Daithi the host as plans for Clarenbridge Oyster Festival steam ahead

The 2009 Clarenbridge Oyster Festival will take place on September 11-13 this year and plans for the event are going full steam ahead.

This year introduces a creative new structure which guarantees a great weekend of entertainment and fine food while maintaining the quality standards synonymous with the festival.

According to Festival chairperson Anne Forde, Clarenbridge has long celebrated national and international acclaim because of the Oyster Festival.

“The festival is very much part of our heritage and this year more than ever we believed it was vital to guarantee its future.

“To do this it was necessary to revise our structure and we are confident that we will provide a top class festival which also recognises current economic trends.”

The official opening of the festival commences on Friday Sept 11 with the traditional Big Band Night in the festival marquee. The Classic Oyster Festival Gala; the main Saturday event, starts at 4.30pm and runs through to midnight on September 12. This year the host on the day will be Daithi O Sé, TG4 weatherman and winning judge of this year All Ireland Talent Show.

With more than seven hours of musical entertainment, novelty acts, competitions, the best of local food and oysters and many other surprises, this is a definite date for your diary and an event not to be missed.

According to Ms Forde, due to the outstanding commitment and support of festival sponsors tickets this year are priced at an unbelievable €75, however, numbers are strictly limited so early booking is essential.

With the ever changing economic climate the support of sponsors and patrons is now more than ever a vital part of the viability and continuation of the festival.

To complete the festivities the Sunday Jamboree introduces a spectacular new development, details of which will follow later

The official launch of the 2009 festival will take place on Friday April 24 and full details of this year’s festival programme of events are available on www.clarenbridge.com Ticket line: 091 796766
