Haley Heynderickx - upstairs in the Róisín

SHE DOES not spell it like Jimi. It's more complicated, more eye-catching, but once past the letters, it is the music that counts, and the words. As Pitchfork said: "she turns her incisive gaze inward, writing from the feelings in her heart and the visions in her head".

Filipino-American singer-songwriter Haley Heynderickx plays the upstairs bar of the Róisín Dubh on Thursday April 25 at 9pm, where she will perform songs from her debut album, I Need To Start A Garden. It was released in March 2018 on Mama Bird Recording Co, and has enjoyed much acclaim from critics. "At the heart of her songs is an open-ended curiosity about the human condition – how it works and how, often, it doesn’t," said Uncut; while The Skinny called it "breathtaking"; and Popmatters said it was "refreshing".

Heynderickx's music draws on singer-songwriter, 1960s and 1970s folk-rock, and jazz. Admission is €10. See www.roisinndubh.net
