Interested in soccer, a secondary school pupil, and speak Irish? RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and Galway United have joined forces to promote a soccer commentary competition for secondary school pupils.
The competition is open to budding soccer commentators in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. To apply students must write and record a 30-45 second report in Irish on the division one SSE Airtricity match between Galway United and Wexford which takes place on May 3, and to send it to [email protected] by Wednesday May 8.
A panel of journalists and experts will pick the best entries, and the shortlist will be announced on Spórt an tSathairn on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta on May 18.
Those shortlisted will be asked to record a 45 second report in Irish on the Galway v Cabinteely match on Friday May 31, and to send it to [email protected] by Wednesday June 5. The winners will be chosen from these entries.
The first prize will include two tickets for the qualifier between Ireland and Switzerland in the Aviva, a season ticket for Galway United, €100 and an RTÉ RnaG hoodie. Second prize will include a season ticket for Galway United, a Galway United jersey and an RTÉ RnaG hoodie. Third place will include a season ticket for Galway United and an RTÉ RnaG hoodie.
The winners will be announced on Spórt an tSathairn on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta on June 8.
