Walsh 'rubbishes' claims of 'downgrading' of Mervue Health Centre

Claims that services provided at Mervue health centre are to be downgraded, or that the centre itself is to be closed down, are "false rumours", according to Fine Gael city councillor, John Walsh.

Cllr Walsh has moved to allay fears being expressed by residents in Mervue, Ballybane, Castlegar and Renmore who use services at Mervue Health Centre, saying there is "no plan" to close the centre, reduce hours of services, or to move services from the centre.

The Minister for Health, Simon Harris, and Tony Canavan from the HSE's chief office community services have both have confirmed that the Mervue centre will continue to operate as is, and according to Cllr Walsh, were adamant there would be "no reduction or transfer of services".

Cllr Walsh pointed out that Government policy is to expand services provided in communities. “It is planned to extend services in Doughiska and a new primary care facility is planned for Oranmore," he said, "thereby improving community-based facilities to the east of the city."
