Community groups urge candidates to ensure 'equality is at the heart' of their campaigns

#EqualityVotesGalway to hold hustings for all local election candidates on Monday April 29

Councillors seeking re-election and candidates standing for election to City Hall have been invited to declare their intention and commitment to ensure "equality is at the heart of their representation" and the work they will do in local government.

A range of local organisations - Galway City Community Network, Galway City Partnership, Galway Traveller Movement, Amach LGBTI+, Cope Galway, the Bridge Project, the Disability Federation of Ireland, Access for All and the Galway Anti-Racism Network - have joined forces to call on candidates to adopt the three values underpinning a manifesto developed at a national level by the Community Platform - community, decency, participation.

As a result the #EqualityVotesGalway Taskgroup has developed a manifesto calling on all local candidates to ensure equality is at the heart of their representation. The consortium has also organised a hustings for all local election candidates on Monday April 29 at 6.30pm in Croí, Newcastle, and is urging all candidates to participate.

All interested parties are requested to register their attendance prior to the hustings by emailing [email protected].
