IF YOU like to dance, and are keen to try something a little different, why not have a go at the some 17th century 'Playford' dances - the ancestors of our céilí and set dances?
The Galway Early Music Festival is hosting pre-festival Sunday dance workshops. On April 28 and May 5, Felicity Maxwell will teach dances from the earliest Playford publication (1651 ), explore music and dance moves from England, Scotland, and Ireland.
On May 12 and 19, Lise Carrel will explore mediaeval and Renaissance dance, via French traditional dances. There will be live music on medieval pipes by Jacopo Bisagni.
All classes run from 2pm to 4pm, and are €5 each or €15 for all four. Payment is at the door. No pre-booking is necessary. The classes are open to all levels of experience, and to all ages from 10 upwards. For more information see www.galwayearlymusic.com or call 083 - 4619039.
