New drama on life of Una Taaffe all but sold out

Handful of tickets still available for Monday matinee performance as part of 2019 Galway Theatre Festival

UNA TAAFFE was one of Galway's great characters and personalities, and her life will be explored in Are You There Una?, one of the most anticipated shows of the 2019 Galway Theatre Festival.

Are You There Una? by Elaine Mears, is a reclamation and restoration portrait of the late Una Taaffe. It explores collected stories, interviews, personal memorabilia, and memories of her, as a means of peeling back the layers of myth-making and finding the real person beneath. Una’s life speaks to wider concerns of finding a sense of identity and belonging, how we read isolation, eccentricity, and mental illness, and how we demystify these.

.

The show will feature live music from My Fellow Sponges' Anna Mullarkey, and video design by acclaimed Galway artist Jennifer Cunningham. Are You There Una? was originally developed as part of Druid's FUEL residency and Galway Theatre Festival 2018.

Are You There Una? will be performed at The Mick Lally Theatre, Druid Lane, but only a handful of tickets are left for the Monday May 6 performance at 4pm (contact Town Hall Theatre on 091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie ). The show will also be performed in Áras Éanna, Inis Oírr, on May 25. Tickets are via [email protected].
