Peadar Tóibín’s Aontú party launches Galway election candidates

Former city councillor Nuala Nolan, former mayor of Tuam Martin Ward, and 2014 local election candidate Cormac Ó Corcoráin, will be formally launched as Aontú’s Local Elections candidates for Galway.

The campaign launch will take place this evening at 8.30pm in the Menlo Park Hotel, with Aontú leader and founder Peadar Tóibín TD as the guest speaker. Ms Nolan will run in Galway City East, Mr Ó Corcoráin in Galway City Central, and Mr Ward in the Tuam electoral area.

Ms Nolan, a former Labour city councillor, has a background in trade unionism and advocacy. Her priorities are solving the homelessness and housing crises, and improving access to and resourcing of mental health services.

Mr Ó Corcoráin contested the 2014 elections as an Independent. His campaign will focus on supporting local businesses; more favourable commercial rates; and greater accountability and transparency in local politics.

Mr Ward is a former mayor of Tuam, and is strongly involved in community activism. He will focus on inequality and discrimination, especially in the areas of jobs and housing.
