LUMINOSA MUSIC, Galway's new orchestra, will present its inaugural concert series, Soundings, at Galway Cathedral, with a programme spanning eight centuries of female composers.
Luminosa Music was founded in February 2018 by Nicola Geddes and Lucy Hayward, following a meeting at a hairdressers. “I remember having my head back in the sink, Nicki did as well, and she asked me what I really wanted to do,” recalls Lucy. "I told her I wanted to manage an orchestra, shrugging at the ludicrousy of this proposal, since there was no orchestra in Galway."
Nicola continues: "I was being hired to play for various projects, with many of the same great Galway based musicians, but we didn't have our own orchestra we could develop artistically and musically. I knew musicians would be keen. We needed someone who understood music, who would have passion and drive. Lucy's ambitious vision, sheer dogged determination, and professionalism made this possible."
The concert is on Monday April 15 at 8pm. It will also feature poetry from Grace Kiely. Tickets are available via www.eventbrite.ie or www.luminosa.ie
