Poppyseed @ The Glass Factory

Galway Irish Crystal has long been recognised as one of the world's best known and loved Irish crystal brands. Each piece of Galway Crystal is inspired by the rugged beauty of the local landscape and by the wealth of folklore and ancient history along the west coast of Ireland.

Visitors to the factory can now call in to Poppyseed, a new café and restaurant on Galway’s east side above the Galway Crystal factory shop on the Old Dublin Road. The interior in this expansive cafe reflects the heritage of the building, deep chairs are upholstered in arresting shades of magenta, mustard, and floral prints. The botanical theme continues on the prettily printed teapots, cups and saucers. The décor is vibrant, chandeliers hang from the ceiling and deep Chesterfield sofas abound.

Sister to the original Clarinbridge Poppyseed, the emphasis here is on wholesome home-cooked dishes with the importance of locally-sourced produce and attention to detail to the fore. Breakfast is served from 9am to 12 noon. In addition to the full Irish, traditional breakfast dishes and omelettes, Poppyseed serves freshly baked scones and pastries daily, as well as a variety of lighter dishes such as granola with natural yoghurt, berry compote and seasonal fruits, and French toast.

A carvery is available from 12 noon to 2.3pm, later on Sundays, with a wide selection of hot dishes such as roast pork with apple sauce, chicken curry, quiches, and savoury pies. Later in the day you can expect a selection of gourmet sandwiches with salad and fries, burgers, and pasta dishes. All of the breads, savoury pies, scones, sweet buns, pastries, and cakes are baked fresh every morning and are available to take home.

Whether it is a full Irish you are after, some scrambled eggs on homemade brown bread, or a croissant with a comforting cuppa, Poppyseed @ The Glass Factory is worth a visit in a part of the city not particularly well supplied with reliable cafes. You never know where Poppyseed is going to pop up next.

Poppyseed @ The Glass Factory is open seven days a week serving breakfast, lunch, light bites, and baked goods. The café and restaurant opens from 9am until 5.00pm Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to 5pm on Sundays and bank holidays.
