Recurring problems with burst pipes that have caused several water outages for homes and businesses on the outskirts of the city and along the Tuam Road area, are finally set to be tackled and solved.
The problems stem from the main water pipe in the area. Irish Water confirmed this week, at a meeting in County Buildings, that it would replace the pipe along the Tuam Road, from the Galway Plate Restaurant to the junction of Parkmore, and possibly to McHugh’s Pub and Restaurant.
The news has been welcomed by Independent county councillor Jim Cuddy, who had been campaigning on this issue. “This particular water pipe erupted on several locations over the past few years, leading to poor pressure and loss of supply for various periods,” he said. “It has now been decided that it would be much more cost effective to replace the pipe rather than carrying out repair works every now and again.”
Cllr Cuddy has also announced he will stand for re-election in the Athenry-Oranmore electoral area n May. He has been a member of the Galway County Council since he was first elected in 2003. He has served as Deputy Mayor and is a member of the council’s Roads and Transportation SPC. He has represented the council on several bodies, including the County Development Board and the Galway Joint Policing Committee.
