Station Road beckons for Mervue

A hectic recent schedule packed with matches has hampered Mervue United, but they return to Station Road tomorrow, the scene of the club’s most polished performance.

That occurred in last November’s First Division Play/Off when Mervue United trounced Kildare County with a display that was effective, enthusiastic, and ultimately efficient. Such industry will need to be replicated again as Mervue are fully aware of how mediocre Kildare have been thus far. Still that brings difficulties too as Kildare are likely to be gritty and determined following two cruel losses to promotion contenders Sporting Fingal and UCD.

Mervue have suffered recently too being nudged from the league and Connacht senior cups by Salthill Devon and Westport United so there is no shortage of incentive.

Competitive last week when Shelbourne filched a last gasp winner manager Johnny Glynn wants Mervue to stitch a sequence of positive results together. “We have Kildare on Friday night and that will be a huge match for us. We have four points, they have one, we’ll be going there to battle,” Glynn said.

“That’s going to be a huge battle for us and that’ll be the key for us, will be getting the heads right. We’re boosting our confidence, we’re improving our play, but if we don’t battle next round we’ll be in a lot of trouble, so that’ll be the key for the week for us.” Mervue intend to be resilient, and it may be sufficient to claim a satisfying road victory.
