Unbeaten Galway ladies book football semi-final

Galway senior ladies have already booked their semi-final place in the Lidl National Football League division one after their 2-14 to 2-9 victory away to Tipperary.

Galway are now the only unbeaten team in the top flight after the fifth round, with Dublin, Donegal, Cork and Mayo still looking for a semi-final.

Galway led 1-2 to 0-1 early on after Lucy Hannon set Leanne Coen up for an opening goal in the fourth minute, but Tim Rabbitte’s charges were made to work hard for their win. Points from Anna Rose Kennedy and Caitlin Kennedy preceded a terrific Aishling Moloney goal to put Tipp ahead 1-3 to 1-2 with nine minutes on the clock. Three more Moloney points put Tipp three clear by the 18th minute.

However Róisín Leonard’s free in the 20th minute tied the game when it snuck in under Lauren Fitzpatrick's crossbar, and Galway added three points before the break to take control by 2-6 to 1-6.

Tipp managed to add two points to their tally during the third quarter, but Galway fired over five of more during this period, Tracey Leonard on target with three. Róisín Leonard then added two more points before Tracey Leonard added a free in the 54th minute to put Galway nine points clear.

Tipp had not scored in 19 minutes when Aishling Moloney lobbed a 65th minute free into the Galway net.
