New Peugeot 208 due in Ireland early in 2020

To mark 208 years in business, French car maker Peugeot tells us it will launch the new 208 range in Ireland in early 2020. Prices and equipment, however, will be announced closer to launch.

Unveiled ahead of this week's 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the 208 will come with a choice of petrol, diesel or electric powertrains.

It will feature the latest-generation i-Cockpit and 3D head-up display, together with a range of driving aids usually reserved for prestige models.

A choice of three petrol powertrains (1.2 litre 75bhp S&S manual, 1.2 litre 100bhp S&S manual or eight speed automatic, and 1.2 litre 130bhp S&S eight speed automatic ) and a 1.5 BlueHDi diesel 100bhp S&S manual, will be available from launch.

The new Peugeot e-208 offers a lively, stimulating driving experience with its 100 per cent electric engine, also available from launch. The range will be up to 340km, in accordance with the latest WLTP (worldwide harmonised light vehicles test procedures ) certification. This battery is guaranteed for eight years or 160,000km, according to Peugeot.

The new 208 is longer, wider and lower than its predecessor, revealing a distinctive bodyline and clean, taut lines. Wide shaped wings, body curves, a pared-back windscreen and a longer, sculpted bonnet underscore the sporty look, while the familiar Peugeot full LED three-claw headlight signature, dependent on trim, is immediately recognisable.

The front bumper contains a perfectly-integrated, single outlet radiator grille in the centre, bearing the iconic Peugeot lion. The tip of the bonnet shows off the 208 badge.
