The Connacht Property Auction held its first public auction of 2019 on Thursday February 21 in the Menlo Park Hotel, Galway. Of the 15 properties on offer, 14 were successfully sold giving an impressive 93 per cent success rate for the first event of the year. After a successful run of auctions in 2018, the auction team were expecting to start 2019 in a similar manner and they did not disappoint with continued interest in the majority of lots that were offered.
The auction specialist also announced last month that this year it will hold fixed date multi-lot online auctions throughout the calendar year. Back to February 21 where the first lot of the event was a great opportunity to purchase two properties built on a c1.2 acre site. The properties are located in Cuillein, Carraroe, Co Galway, and were offered for sale in partnership with Spencer auctioneers, Oughterard. The property had significant interest with bids opening at €90,000 at the auction and the property was sold for €101,000.
Also in partnership with Spencer auctioneers, the auction team offered for sale a beautifully refurbished three bed traditional stone cottage in Roundstone, Co Galway. Howie Cottage was subject to strong interest in the lead up to the public auction from both local and national buyers. After some brisk bidding from a number of keen parties the property sold for €185,000.
In Portumna a fine four bed family home was sold in partnership with Keary auctioneers. No 1 Palmerstown Grove had strong pre-auction interest and the vendor accepted a bid of €167,000 prior to the live event.
In partnership with Property Partners Emma Gill a site with full planning permission for a three bed family home in Killawalla, Westport, was sold for €52,000. In Leitrim, an ideal family home was sold in partnership with Gordon Hughes, Ballinamore. Ashgrove, Mohill had early interest from local buyers and was sold for €100,000 to a delighted new owner.
The final lot of the event was a large, well located, four bed detached property in Menlough, Ballinasloe. This extensive property was brought to market in partnership with Tyrrell auctioneering, Tuam. Cloonweelaun proved popular with many local buyers and successful sold for €102,000 at Thursday's auction.
