John McGahern Yearbook published by NUIG

THE FIRST volume of The John McGahern Yearbook, published by NUI, Galway, was launched at the John McGahern International Seminar, which is currently taking place in Co Leitrim.

This hardback volume has been compiled and edited by Dr John Kenny, Department of English, NUIG, and includes contributions from poet Séamus Heaney, commentator Declan Kiberd, author Joseph O’Connor, and theatre critic Belinda McKeon, among others.

John McGahern lived most of his working life near Fenagh in Leitrim where he combined his literary commitments with an enduring love of farming and rural life.

He had a long association with NUI, Galway. For more than 25 years he contributed each year to many academic programmes at NUIG, especially to its summer school in Irish studies and workshops in creative writing.
