Maria Somerville - new single, album, and Róisín Dubh show

Irish tour begins in Galway. Debut album, All My People out tomorrow

MARIA SOMERVILLE, "one of Ireland’s most essential talents," according to The Thin Air, has released the single 'Brighter Days', is about to release of her debut album, and begin her Irish tour in Galway.

'Brighter Days' is a dreamy, melodic, track in which Maria's voice floats as though in a reverie. It has a hypnotic quality - as does much of her music - and despite its resolutely electronic nature, it manages to have an organic, earthy feel, conveying a sensation of being in nature, as opposed to withdrawn from it. This, of course, is appropriate, as Maria cites the landscape of her native Connemara as an influence on her music.

This track, like the previous singles, 'All My People' and 'This Way', is a taster for Maria's debut album, All My People, released tomorrow. It features seven tracks and will be available on vinyl and digitally. It was recorded in Dublin, Cornamona, and Inis Óirr. Nialler9 has praised her "interesting integration of overlapping traditional Irish melodies with dense soundscapes, textured by atmospheric vocals”.

Maria Somerville plays Strange Brew at the Róisín Dubh on Thursday March 7 at 8pm. Tickets are available from www.roisindubh.net; the Ticket Desk at OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; and The Róisín Dubh. She also plays Áras Eanna, Inis Óirr, Aran Islands on June 16.
