The way of life of the bee

Photographic exhibition by environmental scientist Jeanne Sampier

BEES, ANTS, and beetles are disappearing eight times faster than mammals, birds, or reptiles, and the current rate of decline may lead to the extinction of 40 per cent of insects over the next few decades.

This sobering and unsettling news is according to a major study, recently published in the scientific journal, Biological Conservation. It also adds poignancy and urgency to a new photographic exhibition currently running in the Renzo Café, Eyre Street.

Bee Mine, celebrating the beauty, diversity, and way of life of bees, is a series of photos - taken on an organic farm in Willmering, Bavaria, Germany - by Galway born environmental scientist, Jeanne Sampier. Her academic studies focused on protecting pollinators (primarily bees ). She later developed Galway-based Green Sod Ireland’s bee-friendly action project for primary schools Bee Aware and Wild Bee Presentations for community groups.
