Greens to hold public meeting on Galway's traffic problems

Party to launch European Election candidate Saoirse McHugh on Saturday

Traffic congestion, gridlock, and its effects on both the public and the environment, will be discussed at Let's Get Galway Moving, a public meeting hosted by the Green Party in the Galway Bay Hotel.

The meeting takes place tomorrow at 7.30pm, and will be addressed by Eamon Ryan TD, leader of the Green Party; Local Election candidates Pauline O'Reilly (Galway City West ) and Martina O'Connor (Galway City Central ), and former minister, Cllr Ciarán Cuffe, the party spokesperson on transport.

Earlier that evening, at 6.30pm, also in the Galway Bay Hotel, the Greens will host it's European election candidate launch. The party is running Saoirse McHugh in the Midlands–North-West constituency. Ms McHugh is a 28-year-old environmentalist from Achill and has a background in food sustainability. She will also make an address in Áras na MacLéinn, NUIG, at 1pm that day.

"The Greens have had a huge surge in activism in Galway," said Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan. "This feels natural due to Galway's long connection with nature. Many have settled here from other parts of Ireland or the world, drawn by the beautiful rugged coastline, the ocean, the wide spaces and the parks and forests. But over and over again, I hear from people who are concerned that these are under threat. Climate change concerns everyone on the planet, but as a low lying area surrounded by ocean and rivers, Galway has a particular need to think about this issue, and now more than ever."

All the above events are open to the public.
