Rory and the Island play Galway next week

Donegal singer-songwriter returns to the city

AFTER A nine-year hiatus, singer-songwriter Rory Gallagher, formerly of Donegal rockers The Revs, returns to Galway with his current band project: Rory and the Island.

In 2010, Rory began releasing new material under Rory and the Island. The band has had eight Top 20 songs on iTunes Ireland with Donegal GAA reggae tune 'Jimmy’s Winning Matches' breaking into the overall Irish Top 10 in 2012. Rory also wrote 'Make Way For The Fighting Irish' in 2014 for Irish NABF Middleweight Champion Jason Quigley's debut pro fight in Las Vegas. It later went to No 1 in the iTunes Irish world music chart.

Rory recently returned home after living in the Canaries for a number of years, and since returning, has toured Ireland and Britain. He is touring Ireland again and will play Galway. “It is the perfect town to try out new ideas, very honest reaction!" he said. He will play songs from his new album to be released in April.

Rory and The Island play The Loft at Seven, Bridge Street, on Wednesday February 20 at 9pm. They will be joined by fiddle/harmonica player Sean Magee. Admission is €10.
