ITALIAN MULTIMEDIA poet Antonella Bukovaz, Albanian poet Luljeta Lleshanaku, and French novelist Sylvain Prudhomme, winner of the Prix de la Porte Dorée, are among the writers who will be reading at Cúirt 2019.
The 34th Cúirt International Festival of Literature takes place from April 8 to 14, and this year there will be a strong focus on writers from outside the Anglo-sphere. As part of this, Cúirt will host a day dedicated to European writing that will include the launch of a two-year European project, Read Me I Am Yours, on Tuesday April 9 in the Nuns Island Theatre.
Read Me I Am Yours will see Cúirt partner with the Vilenica International Literary Festival, Slovenia, and the Festival of World Literature, Croatia, to "promote cross-cultural understanding and to encourage intercultural dialogue", while also focusing on literature from minority languages and dialects, by creating an online portal to share work produced as a result of authors’ exchanges, discussions, colloquiums and literary readings. The project will run into 2020 and see activity take place in both European Capitals of Culture - Galway and Rijeka.
“The variations in minority languages and dialects teach significantly about differences in culture," says Cúirt programme director, Emily Cullen. "This digital platform will enrich our understanding about literary and linguistic diversity across the European regions by enabling access to a wealth of material. It will allow us to hear and share stories from many other cultures and countries."
