HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL Day will be marked in Galway with a screening of Steven Spielberg's powerful 1993 film, Schindler's List, starring Liam Neeson as the German industrialist who saved the lives of 1,200 Jews during WWII.
Schindler's List, based on Thomas Keneally's book Schindler's Ark, and which won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, will be screened on Holocaust Memorial Day, this Sunday [January 27] at 2.40pm.
This true story follows Nazi Party member Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson in his finest performance ), who saved the lives of 1,200 Jews by employing them in his enamelware and ammunitions factories in Poland and Czechoslovakia. Initially motivated by profit, he came to show extraordinary courage, ingenuity, and dedication to save the lives of his Jewish employees. He died in 1974 and was buried in Jerusalem on Mount Zion. In 1993, Schindler and his wife Emilie, were named Righteous Among the Nations by the Israeli government.
