Early 2019 at Ballynahinch Castle Hotel sees the remarkable lives of Richard “Humanity Dick” Martin and Lady Augusta Gregory brought to life in two nights of excellent theatre on January 27 and February 3 in the gorgeous surroundings of this Connemara hotel.
On Sunday January 27 the Curlew Theatre Company presents The Loves of Lady Gregory, a one-woman show performed by Tegolin Knowland and written and directed by Eamon Grennan, presenting the various aspects, private and public, of a long productive life lived at the heart of the most important events in Ireland’s history. A fascinating hour-long sketch from the early days of the cultural revival through the Easter Rising, the War of Independence, and the Civil War to the new Ireland, The Loves of Lady Gregory concentrates on intimate relationships brought to life in Lady Augusta Gregory’s own distinctive voice.
International father of animal rights, celebrity duellist, and rolling financial disaster, Colonel Richard “Humanity Dick” Martin MP (1754-1834 ) lived for much of his life at his beloved Ballynahinch Castle, and he returns on Sunday February 3 in the form of a one-man show written and performed by Seán Leonard, a riveting and greatly entertaining theatrical performance based on the lively journey through Humanity Dick’s many, many, adventures which was a break-out success of the Galway Fringe Festival.
Each show begins at 5.30pm with tickets available from Ballynahinch Castle Hotel for €60, which includes dinner in the Fisherman’s Pub after the performance. Overnight theatre evening tickets, which include bed and breakfast and dinner in the Owenmore Restaurant, are available from €135 per person sharing.
