Galway Advertiser editor to read at Over The Edge

Declan Varley to read from his latest novel The Confession of Peadar Gibbons

DECLAN VARLEY, the editor of the Galway Advertiser, will read from his new novel, The Confession of Peadar Gibbons, at the final Over The Edge: Open Reading of 2018.

Declan Varley, from Ballinrobe, County Mayo, is the author of the previous novels Kittyland (1992 ), Sure It Could Happen (1993 ), The Elephant’s Graveyard (1994 ), and Nightmusic (2001 ). He was a journalist at The Tuam Herald, and later edited Magpie magazine, before becoming editor of the Galway Advertiser in 2001. He is now group editor of Galway Advertiser Newspapers Ltd.

Also reading will be Evan Costigan, whose poems have been published in Poetry Ireland Review, The Stinging Fly, The Irish Times, and The Moth. In 2017 he won the Red Line Book Festival Poetry Competition and the Oliver Goldsmith Literary Festival Poetry Competition. He has read at Electric Picnic and the International Literature Festival, Dublin. The third reader will be Daniel McBrearty, whose poetry has been published in A New Ulster. His fiction won the Ulster Male category in Hot Press' Write Here Write Now Competition last May.

Over The Edge takes place in Galway City Library on Thursday December 13 at 6.30pm. There will be an open-mic after the featured readers. New readers are welcome. The MC will be Susan Millar DuMars.
