Greens announce Galway local election candidates

Party to run a candidate in two of the city's three electoral wards

The Galway Greens will run two candidates in next May's Local Elections to City Hall - Pauline O’Reilly in Galway City West ward and Martina O’Connor in Galway City Central.

Pauline O’Reilly is the Green Party's spokesperson for children and youth affairs; the party's General Election candidate for Galway West; chair of the Galway Steiner School; and has advocated for the second level Educate Together school. She said her campaign will focus on dealing with plastic waste; supporting sustainable transport options; greater choices in education for children; and encouraging a move away from the developer-led planning which "sees short term profit as the only thing that matters".

Martina O'Connor from Shantalla, has been a nurse in UHG for close to 30 years. Her campaign will focus on healthcare and planning. "Decisions made by the Galway City Council around housing and green spaces have a huge effect on the physical and mental health of local people," she said. "Green spaces where our children can play safely, and real solutions to the housing crisis, are essential for a healthy community."
