Harvey Norman creates over 50 new jobs in Galway and finds a home in the West. Thursday, 15th November 2018. Harvey Norman Ireland announces the creation of over 50 new jobs in their new Galway store next year. The retailer has been searching for the perfect location in Galway for a number of years, with their online sales in that region indicating that the demand is there for the appliances, technology and interiors retailer. The Gateway Retail Park in Knocknacarra, Galway is the perfect location for the retailer; the park is thriving and has a catchment population of 153,828.
Harvey Norman plans to invest in the region of €4.5million on the project to create a best in class shopping destination. Blaine Callard, CEO of Harvey Norman Ireland: “Our Irish business has great momentum right now and the addition of this huge showcase store in Galway is an exciting addition to the ourstore network. We see from our online business that there is huge pent-up demand to shop physically in Harvey Norman from Galway customers, and whilst it has taken a few years we have finally found a home in the West.” The Harvey Norman Galway store will be split across two floors of retail space, with all of the top global technology and appliance brands plus a vast “on trend” furniture and interiors collection. The store design will incorporate large open architectural spaces, areas for customer events, interactive and experiential displays, and a 110 seat restaurant with views to Galway Bay – all making for a vibrant fresh retail experience.
The new phase will have an additional 600 parking spaces over ground and basement level. The new Harvey Norman store will anchor the second Phase of Gateway Retail Park. It was acquired in 2016 by Sigma Retail Partners on behalf of Oaktree Capital. Agents Bannon, who handled the letting to Harvey Norman on behalf of the owners, have said that the addition of Harvey Norman as anchor to the scheme highlights the quality of Gateway Retail Park as a retail destination and there is underlying demand for retail space in Galway with a strong interest in the remainder of the scheme.
Marcus Wren, Managing Director of Sigma: “We are delighted to welcome Harvey Norman to Galway. A huge amount of work has been put into planning the new extension to Gateway Retail Park by the wider team as well as Galway City Council who have been extremely pro-active in working with us in bringing this long?awaited development to reality”. In August 2017, Harvey Norman Ireland opened their Flagship store in Tallaght, Dublin, and with today’s announcement of a new Galway store, it’s clear that after 15 years in Ireland, Harvey Norman are continuing to invest and expand their Irish retail footprint. Recruitment for the new Galway store roles will commence in the coming weeks. The available roles will include sales, cashiers and administration.
