Work is due to start within weeks on a major new housing development for Barna, after it received the green light this week. Planning permission was granted for the 197-unit residential development by Burkeway Homes on an 18-acre site just 500m from the village.
With a gross development value of €60 million, the new development is due to commence in January, with Phase 1 house sales launching in spring next year and new homeowners expected to receive keys to their new home in spring 2020.
Working with award-winning architects McCauley Daye O’Connell, the Burkeway Homes development will comprise a mix of four bed detached, three and four bed semi-detached, two and three bed terrace homes, two bed townhouses and one, two and three bed apartments.

Speaking on the successful granting of planning permission, Burkeway Homes managing director Michael Burke says the business is thrilled to have received the green light to offer much-needed housing to the local Galway community, in the highly sought after Barna area.
“As with all of our developments, quality really is our cornerstone. We build for a better living, developing not only homes but a lifestyle and feeling of community. We believe that this exciting new development will succeed in doing just that. Our 18-acre site boasts some gorgeous existing features, which for us are important to maintain and integrate into our design, along with a wide range of additional amenities for our residents to enjoy,” he said.

The open space spanning four acres will include a crèche, outdoor putting green, playground, all-weather surface for year-round play, and tranquil walks, and parks located on the banks of the Truskey Stream, which runs through the centre of the development.
Another stand-out feature of the development will be an existing old walled orchard, which is being restored and preserved as a walled garden. Burkeway Homes is one of Ireland’s most successful property developers. This family run business has a wealth of experience, having been in operation for over 25 years.
