Tender documents for the appointment of a contractor for the Moycullen by-pass have been drafted, with a view to going to tender early in mid-2019, with work finally beginning on the project in 2020.
These developments have been welcomed by Fianna Fáil Galway West TD Éamon Ó Cuív, who said the “need for this bypass is becoming increasingly urgent as traffic volumes on the Galway/Clifden road have grown substantially in recent years”.
Ó Cuív also welcomed progress in relation to works on the Oughterard to Bunakill section of the road, with a contractor due to be appointed soon to construct fencing along the route. Once the appointment has been made, a method statement will be drafted for this work and agreed with the National Parks and Wildlife service.
It is expected that the Bunakill to Maam Cross sections can go to tender before the end of this year. Also, a review of the An Bord Pleanala decision to refuse permission to upgrade the section of road from Maam Cross to Clifden is under way.
Contracts have been awarded for fencing and site clearance in Letterfrack, where work is to be carried out on the Clifden side of the village. Tender documents for the appointment of the main contractor are now being drafted, with a view to the process commencing in the second quarter of 2019.
